Wind Power Essentials Print E-mail

Simply put, Wind Energy is essential

Our civilization has been built on (and continues to be based on) the consumption of energy, primarily oil-based energy. The world's demand for cheap energy will only increase at geometric rates, even as oil production decreases due to diminishing reserves. Converting free wind to energy not only makes sense, but is essential for the future. The Blackhawk Project is a unique design combining the proven capabilities of helicopter rotor head functions with an advanced wind turbine design.

View from 30,000 feet

  • The #1 threat to our national security today is our dependence on foreign oil originating from unstable countries.
  • Oil Companies' profits are proportional to the demand for oil, so they have no incentive for alternative energy development - why kill the goose that lays the golden egg?
  • Currently the public feels no sense of urgency to change their consumption habits - gas is still relatively cheap.

Watch Obama on Wind Energy:

Change is inevitable

  • $200+/bbl is predicted as oil production peaks, and OPEC has no need to adjust production due to demand from China & India.
  • There will come a time when anything that produces "free" power will be in demand.

What about other sources of power?

  • Ethanol and bio-diesel are beginning to fall into disfavor as their true cost and impact on the environment are more closely scrutinized.
  • Nuclear power is the only large-scale solution, but will continue to meet resistance. It solves one problem and creates even larger ones regarding waste disposal.
  • "Clean" coal, CO2 sequestration, etc., just beg the problem.
  • That leaves SOLAR and WIND.

Solar vs. Wind Print E-mail

Solar Wind
Less energy from sun More energy in wind
10% Efficiency Max 59% Max Efficiency
Typical $4-6/watt Typical $2-4/watt
Not available at night Wind continues to blow at night
Harder to move/install Easier to move/install
Specialized manufacturing Standard manufacturing
Typical 20+ years to break even Typical 6-10 years to break even
Howerver, combining Wind and Solar Energies will be a major factor in reducing our dependencies on Fossil Fuels.
